For school counselors and advisors
Counselor view
School counselors can see progress from students who choose to share: saved awards, applications, and deadlines in the next 30 days. Students control sharing and can stop at any time.
What a counselor sees
- Your name and grad year
- How complete your profile is (a percent)
- How many awards you saved
- How many applications are in progress and how many you sent
- Your deadlines in the next 30 days (award name and date)
- How many essay drafts you have (a count, not the words)
What a counselor never sees
- Your email, phone, address, or birth date
- Your parent or family details and money facts (Funding Gap)
- Your documents and uploads
- Your essay words, unless you tick the box below
- Anything about payments or your plan
How sharing works
- Counselor sharing is off unless a student turns it on. A student enters a counselor code, reads exactly what will be shared, and says yes.
- A counselor sees counts and dates: profile percent, saved awards, applications in progress or sent, deadlines in the next 30 days, and how many essay drafts there are. Essay words are shared only if the student ticks a separate box.
- A counselor never sees a student’s email, phone, address, birth date, family money facts, documents, or payment details.
- A student can stop sharing at any time from the Account page. It stops right away. Deleting the account also removes its sharing records.
- Counselor sharing is only for students 13 and older. Students under 13 cannot share. We log each share, stop, and counselor view.
- Next Scholar is not a school record system. We are not FERPA certified. Schools should check their own rules before asking students to share.
Counselors sign in to see their list. New counselor accounts are checked before they see any student info.
